For the DIY Homeowner
All forms of tree bands start with a layer of batting wrapped around the tree, which prevents the female adult cankerworms from crawling underneath the band to reach the top of the tree. The traditional banding method covers the batting with layer of tarpaper, which is then stapled to the tree. StikNStop™ can then be applied to the outside surface of the band, preventing bugs from climbing up the tree. StikNStop™ is 100% Non-Toxic, will stay sticky indefinitely, and will never wash off in the rain.
Directions for Use

- Apply StikNStop™ evenly on the outside surface of the tree banding material of your choice. Gaps between the tree bark and the band should be filled with a fibrous material to prevent adult female cankerworms from bypassing the trap.
- StikNStop™ should be applied to the band 3 inches wide and 1/16th inch thick. Thicker applications may be necessary for porous banding material.
- For heavy infestations or bands that cannot be regularly maintained, apply over a wider area and reapply if necessary.
- Do not apply thicker than 3/32nd inch thick. StikNStop™ should not be applied directly to the trunk as this can cause bark staining.
- StikNStop™ will remain sticky indefinitely and will trap insects unless covered by insects or debris. In such a situation, reapply or scrape the surface to turn over a fresh layer.
- After the spring emergence, banding materials can safely be disposed of in the garbage.
Banding Tips
- Fill all gaps between the bark and the band with batting to prevent climbing insects from passing the sticky barrier.
- Ensure banding material is strong enough to withstand the elements for months.
- Maintain your band; leaves, debris, and trapped insects can allow climbing insects to crawl over the band. Always remove leaves. Overwhelming numbers of insects or debris may require scraping or reapplication.
- If applying StikNStop™ in cold weather, it is easier to apply if warmed slightly.
- Bands tend to stay wet after rain. Remove bands after season’s end to prevent damage to tree bark.
Clean Up
The sticky insect trapping goo used on cankerworm bands is not soluble in water. However, the cleaning process is simple for hands and tools:
- Remove excess goo physically with a paper towel or rag.
- Wipe down areas of goo with paper towels or rags saturated in liquid cooking oil.
- Apply a small amount of dishwashing soap like Dawn directly to the now oily areas. Vigorously rub the oil and soap together.
- Rinse the soapy residue off in warm water.
- If some tackiness remains, repeat the cleaning process.
